Review: Platinum Puffs Apple Bomb eHookah

So a couple of weeks ago I told you that I was going to start reviewing some eHookah devices, in order to:

a. Test out their efficacy as a Vaping device

b. Test out their flavors and general usefulness

So today I'm going to be reviewing the Platinum Puffs Apple Bomb eHookah.

Here are my official rating criteria for judging disposable eHookah:

  • Taste - Does it taste like what it says it's supposed to taste like?
  • Lingering Flavor - Does the flavor have PRESENCE & does it last?
  • Vapor Production - Does it make lots of Vapor?
  • Draw Force - Is it easy to inhale, or a chore?
  • Exhaled Aroma - Does the exhale SMELL the same as the inhale TASTES?
  • Build Quality - Is it heavy, long, small, ugly or what?
  • Duration - Will I get the amount of "puffs" it advertises?
Testing Notes: One of the things I see all too often, is that "Flavor is subjective".  NO, your individual tastes may be subjective, but flavor is flavor.  I've never had a steak that tasted like chicken.  I've never had an orange that tasted like a banana.  I've never had a cup of coffee that tasted like Hawaiian Punch.  If you ever see me give an eLiquid or a disposable device a bad review, it's because they TASTE BAD and not because I don't like a particular flavor.  I don't care for the flavor of peaches and mangoes, so you won't see me review anything that contains those. Understand? For more information on this topic please read THIS Blog post...

So this should be a nice and easy review, we can almost play it by the numbers.  But first, as this is the FIRST in a line of eHookah devices I'll be reviewing, I wanted to give you a little bit of narrative on Hookah.

Last month was my birthday.  In my house, we have a tradition that says "You can go wherever you want for dinner on your birthday, up to 100 miles away".  I've chosen the same restaurant every year for the past 10 years (because my wife hates it, which makes it the only way I can go there), but this year I knew I was going to be doing some eHookah reviews, so I decided to go to a restaurant that offered REAL HOOKAH, in order to better inform you about the electronic devices.

My first time smoking Hookah was a zillion years ago, so I really can't give you anything useful from that experience.  But my most recent experience put me in a position to be able to offer a much better reviewing perspective.

My wife and I shared a Hookah loaded with some Egyptian brand of Sheesha.  We chose the "Two-Apples" flavor, because I knew I was going to be reviewing some Double Apple flavored eHookah.

First the smoke/vapor production of the Hookah.  Medium.  About the amount of smoke you'd get from an Ultra-light cigarette.  Not enough to satisfy my need for a "modest cloud".  Next, the flavor of the Hookah.  Light.  I would have preferred to be knocked down by the delicious flavor of apples, instead I barely had any flavor.  Next was something totally unexpected... My throat was WORE OUT for 3 days after using the Hookah and I'm not sure why.  I did some research online and I see that this is a COMMONLY reported issue with Hookah use.

So with this experience behind me, I can honestly say that my eHookah reviews HAVE GOT TO BE BETTER.

First of all, let's talk about the build quality of the Platinum Puff Disposable eHookah.  It's a nicely designed eHookah.  It looks and feels like a quality made product.  It even has a nice silver Hookah hose-type tip, that makes it very attractive.  The only criticism I have about the construction, is that the "Diamond Light Up Tip" is unnecessary.

Duration?  Well, this device is rated at 800 puffs and as of right now, I've got well over 200 puffs on it, and it's still going strong.  I'll revise this review when I've got a final count on that.
Vapor production is poor, but actually on target with my actual Hookah experience.  I can't help but wonder if that's why the eHose uses *2* cartos simultaneously.

As for the flavor, Platinum Puffs describes this one as, "An explosion of ripe red apples infused with tangy green apples".  It actually DOES taste like apples.  Would I call it an "Apple Bomb"?  No...  Not by a long shot.  The flavor does last a little bit, but I'd have liked to see that full on "flavor explosion" that they promised though...

Exhaled Vapor smells the same as the inhaled Vapor does.  This I'm sure is thanks to the fact that Platinum Puffs is using Hangsen eHookah liquids.

Draw force.  As this is an automatic device (no button to press), your "draw" is what activates the device.  I rate the draw on this device as medium/high.  I would prefer to see them use a sensor that requires less "pull", as it makes your mouth tired.

As for nicotine and throat hit, this device is labeled as ZERO nicotine and I can confirm that there's none as well.  No throat hit at all and I still needed to puff on my regular eCig to get my 6mg of nicotine.

Cons: Either this device (or this flavor) does not hold up to CHAIN VAPING.  If you want to take more than 1 drag every few minutes, you're going to get a slightly overheated flavor that I find gross.  Letting it cool off for a couple of minutes and it tastes fine again.  Just keep in mind, that this can happen on almost any device and is not specific to the Platinum Puffs brand.

So do I recommend this device?  Well....  Maybe.  If you're looking for a Hookah replacement that doesn't have any of the mess and nothing to clean up, then sure.  Go ahead, grab one and give it a shot.  Just keep in mind that they're not necessarily cheap.  If they actually last to 800 puffs, then at $10 each, you're really only talking about a penny a puff.  But if you only get 200-300 puffs, they'll start to get expensive and add up quickly.  Like I said in my review, I would have preferred that there was A LOT MORE FLAVOR.  I've got a few more of these (Platinum Puffs brand) in different flavors that I'll be reviewing.  I'm hoping to find MORE flavor in some of the others.  I'll let you know...

As always, thank you so very, very, very much for your continued support, thank you for your comments and thank you for Liking it, Tweeting it, Sharing it, +1ing it and telling your dog about it, etc...  ;)

  2. Great review on Apple Bomb eHookah. I usually go for rechargeable e-hookah as their battery last longer. Platinum Puffs has got some really great hookah flavors. My favorite is banana split e-liquid. It has got smooth, creamy taste. So refreshing. http://platinumepuffs.com/liquids/banana-split-en.html
